Police were called last Friday on a Linton man who had been drinking and was aggressive to family members. He was arrested and charged with marijuana possession and resisting law enforcement.

William Wesley Smith, 33, Linton, was arrested by Officer Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department early last Friday, November 13.

Officer Yingling was dispatched at 4:48 a.m. to a residence where Smith was reported to be drinking and becoming aggressive toward a family member. When Officer Yingling arrived, he was told Smith was drinking vodka, had been yelling and being aggressive toward more than one family member and had knocked a bottle of Mountain Dew out of one of their hands causing it to spill all over the floor.

Smith was on probation and confirmed he had been drinking but said his probation was not alcohol-restricted. When a family member was looking for Smith’s bottle of alcohol, one picked up his book bag and when they opened it, a clear plastic bag containing a green plant material fell out.

When Officer Yingling started to put handcuffs on Smith, he was uncooperative. After he was escorted to the patrol vehicle, Smith refused to sit, tightened his muscles and pushed his head into the roof of the vehicle.

Once Smith was sitting, he was transported to Greene County General Hospital to get medically cleared then transported to jail. He was booked in at 6:33 a.m. with bond set at $1,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Tuesday evening, he had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.

Smith has been charged with: Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resisting, a Class A misdemeanor.
