An investigation by an LPD detective resulted in the arrest of a Linton man who has been charged with four counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. He failed a polygraph examination. All four counts are Level 5 felonies.

Jason Marshal Pearson, 39, Linton, was arrested by Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department on Wednesday, January 5, on a warrant issued for Pearson’s arrest as a result of an investigation by LPD Detective Logan Hobbs.

Pearson is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile victim. The victim and witnesses alleged it had been happening on a daily basis since early June.

Pearson has been charged with four counts of sexual misconduct with a minor – defendant has intercourse or engages in other sexual conduct. All four counts are Level 5 felonies.

The investigation began when a juvenile witness told LPD Officer Bobby Pierce about the situation and said they had seen Pearson in bed with the victim. The witness also said the situation had been going on since June.

Officer Pierce then talked to another witness who said they had seen Pearson walking out of the victim’s bedroom on numerous occasions in the early morning hours.

Det. Hobbs was contacted and when he interviewed the alleged victim, the victim was confident about the date it started and was able to describe the nature of the contacts in detail. The victim said it was occurring almost daily since it started, in the early morning before Pearson goes to work. The victim became visibly upset during the interview.

When Det. Hobbs interviewed Pearson at the police department, he denied ever having sexual contact with the victim and he consented to taking a polygraph examination.

In November, Pearson sat for a stipulated polygraph with Sgt. John Campbell at the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post. Pearson allegedly answered “no” to all questions pertaining to having sexual contact with the victim, but after the exam, Sgt. Campbell said Pearson was being deceptive in his answers regarding sexual contact with the victim.

During the post-examination interview, Pearson was advised of the results. Pearson did not deny or admit to sexual contact with the victim and did not make any statements.

Since the examination, Pearson did not respond to requests by Sgt. Hobbs for another interview.

A criminal case was filed against Pearson in Greene Circuit Court and a warrant issued for his arrest on January 5.

Pearson was taken into custody by Officer Walker and booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:15 p.m.

Pearson’s bond was set at $30,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $3,000 and was released later on the same day as his arrest.

Pearson appeared before Judge Erik Allen in Greene Circuit Court yesterday, Wednesday, January 12, for his initial hearing on the four counts – all Level 5 felonies. A no contact order was issued and a public defender was appointed to represent Pearson.
