Linton man arrested on methamphetamine possession charge
/A 56-year-old Linton man was arrested Thursday evening on a felony drug charge after officers investigating a separate complaint allegedly discovered methamphetamine in his possession.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Linton Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Base Road around 7:15 p.m. June 18 to investigate a reported battery. During the investigation, a reporting party informed officers that the suspect had allegedly shown him a bag of methamphetamine.
Officers made contact with Herbert Lee Piker, of Linton, near a shed on the property. While questioning Piker about the allegation, officers asked him about the reported drugs. According to court documents, Piker removed items from his pockets, including an empty pen tube. An officer reported observing a white crystal-like substance inside the tube.
The affidavit states that when asked whether the substance would test positive for methamphetamine, Piker allegedly responded, "probably." Officers then conducted a field test, which reportedly yielded a positive result for methamphetamine.
Piker was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail without incident. He was arrested at 8:25 p.m. on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. No bond was allowed.
