Eckward Brown Hibbard III, 30, Linton, was arrested on Tuesday night, January 21, by Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department.

LPD Officers Joe Riley and John Agan were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to a residence on 1st Street NE for an ongoing domestic dispute. When they arrived, they could hear screaming coming from inside the residence. There was a disagreement between Hibbard and a woman. Officer Riley talked to Hibbard while Officer Agan interviewed the woman.

Officer Riley, the investigating officer, said Hibbard told him he had been at a friend’s house most of the evening and had been drinking heavily. When he arrived home, the woman, who was the mother of their one-year-old child, was upset that he was intoxicated and would not let him see the child. During a verbal altercation, while the woman was holding the child, she tried to shut the bedroom door and get away from him. Hibbard allegedly admitted he forced the door open, causing it to hit the woman and the child.

Officer Agan reported the woman admitted she was frustrated about Hibbard’s behavior and said she had put the child to bed before he came home. She said Hibbard woke the child up and started to get him out of bed. During the verbal altercation, she took the child from him and told him she and the child were going to bed. Then as she attempted to shut the bedroom door, he violently shoved the door, causing it to hit her in the chest and hit the child in the face.

Officer Riley reported the woman had redness on her chest and the child had two visible marks on his face, one on his chin and one under his right eye.

Hibbard was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in around 9:30 p.m. His bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Thursday evening, he has not yet posted bond and remains in jail.

Hibbard is facing a preliminary charge of battery on a person less than 14 years old, a Level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
