Linton man arrested for OVWI after hitting two mailboxes
/Sunday night reports of a reckless driver knocking down mailboxes resulted in the arrest of a Linton man accused of driving with an alcohol concentration of .208. The legal limit is .08.
Roger Lee Bennett, 57, Linton, was arrested by Officer Adam King of the Linton Police Department on Sunday night, June 14.
Before 7:30 p.m. last Sunday, LPD got a report of a reckless driver that had hit two mailboxes on County Road 200 North. Officer King was dispatched.
Bennett was later identified as the driver of a white Ford work van with a municipal plate that was located after he pulled into a driveway on 4th Street NW in Linton.
Officer King reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage when he talked to Bennett, and that Bennett exhibited signs of impairment. He was transported to the police department where he allegedly failed field sobriety testing then tested with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .208.
Officer King reported that Bennett told him he had been working on landscaping at Moose Park that afternoon and had six beers and food. He allegedly said he knew he had hit two mailboxes on his way home.
Bennett was booked in to the Greene County Jail at 9:42 p.m. with bond set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 and was released on June 15.
Bennett is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing on June 25. He is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
