Linton man arrested for intimidation to two officers
/A Linton man might not have gone to jail but he wound up there anyway after he allegedly told a couple of officers he was about to “smoke” them.
Michael Lee Edwards, 40, Linton, was arrested by Police Chief Paul Clark of the Linton Police Department last Tuesday afternoon, October 22.
Chief Clark, the investigating officer, was dispatched along with LPD Officer Orry Phipps last Tuesday around 1 p.m. to the area of 3rd Street and F Street NW after someone called in and said there was a fight going on at a house in the neighborhood.
While they were there, they learned Edwards had been in a verbal disagreement with another individual but not a physical fight.
Chief Clark said Edwards appeared to be very agitated when they got there, standing in a doorway with his fists clenched, staring at Clark in an aggressive posture. Clark said he asked Edwards to calm down. He said Edwards was enraged and continued to walk around the living room and would not calm down.
At one point, Edwards allegedly said he was going to jail. Clark said when he asked Edwards what he would be going to jail for, Edwards said, “I am about to smoke you guys.”
Edwards was taken into custody and then became apologetic, but he was transported to jail and booked in around 2 p.m. His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 and was released the same day.
Edwards was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on a preliminary charge of intimidation, a Level 6 felony.
