Kenneth James Wade, 34, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Andrew Duguay of the Jasonville Police Department late Thursday, March 5.

When Wade appeared in Greene Circuit Court yesterday, March 16, for his initial hearing, he was charged with armed robbery, a Level 3 felony, and robbery, a Level 5 felony.

The Jasonville Package Store was robbed by a man wearing a black hat and a blue winter coat. Security footage viewed later showed the suspect entered the store, reached into a pocket then put a Dollar General sack on the counter and told the female cashier to fill it up. The suspect had a face covering which kept falling down so he kept pulling it back over his face. He told the cashier to hurry up several times.

When he left the store with some cash in the bag, security cameras picked him up as he was running or walking near cameras located at the Jasonville Police Department and the American Legion.

Before he was dispatched to the robbery call, Officer Duguay was in the 100 block of North Lawton Street talking to the driver of a vehicle and checking his driver’s license. The suspect was walking east down an alley behind the American Legion when he saw the JPD patrol vehicle and stopped, hesitated, then kept going. Officer Duguay was watching for which way the man was traveled.

Then Officer Duguay was contacted about the robbery and he quickly located the man, who turned out to be Wade, on West Main Street. Wade was detained at the police station while Officer Duguay responded to the scene of the robbery and talked to the cashier who was scared and crying after the experience.

Officer Duguay reported Wade was found to be in possession of a seven-inch long knife with a serrated blade and the handle wrapped in duct tape; a voltage currency detector with the handle wrapped in blue tape; a heavy tool in his pocket that Wade said he kept for self-protection; and a pipe-cutting tool wrapped in a piece of fabric and duct tape with it all fashioned into the shape of a pistol.

Wade was also allegedly found in possession of a Dollar General bag with $256 cash.

Wade was booked into the Greene County Jail around 11:30 p.m.

During his initial hearing, the judge ordered his bond to be set at $15,000 cash only. As of late today, Tuesday, March 17, Wade had not yet posted bond and remained in jail.
