A Jasonville man was taken into custody yesterday, Tuesday, and when he appeared before a judge earlier today, Wednesday, was charged with stalking after allegedly sending repeated messages of a disturbing nature to a woman he was ordered to have no contact with.

Joey Lee Edmonson, 29, Jasonville, is behind bars at the Greene County Jail where he’s being held without bond.

His latest arrest comes as a result of an investigation by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Heather Wood who was asked on February 8 to contact a woman about a complaint of harassment.

When Deputy Wood talked to the woman, she told the deputy that she had an active protective order against her husband, Edmonson, but he had been text messaging her repeatedly and she was able to show Deputy Wood numerous messages she had received on her phone dating back from last December through the present.

Deputy Wood reported the messages were vulgar, and some were threatening. Deputy Wood included descriptions and quotes from these messages in a probable cause document. By Thursday, February 14, a criminal case was filed against Edmonson and a warrant issued for his arrest.

Edmonson was taken into custody yesterday, Tuesday, February 26, by Deputy Jim Carpenter. Edmonson appeared in Greene Superior Court earlier today, via video conference between the jail and the courtroom.

Edmonson was charged with stalking – where defendant threatens sexual battery, serious bodily injury or death, a Level 5 felony, and invasion of privacy – in violation of a protective order, a Class A misdemeanor.

Greene County Public Defender Alan Baughman was appointed to represent Edmonson and Edmonson’s bond in this case was set at $25,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

However, Edmonson has a previous case pending against him. He was arrested last December and charged with strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor, following an incident involving the same victim as in the latest case.

In that earlier case, Edmonson posted bond and was released from custody. He was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

The State filed a petition to revoke Edmonson’s bond in the earlier case and court records indicate that Edmonson was found to be in violation of the conditions of his release.

So, Edmonson’s bond was revoked – he is being held without bond in the earlier case.
