Greene County SWCD seeking produce donations for National Night Out
/The Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District is asking local farmers, gardeners and produce vendors to help promote healthy eating by donating fresh produce for this year's Greene County National Night Out.
The donations will be distributed free of charge to families attending National Night Out, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Humphreys Park in Linton.
This year's Soil & Water booth will feature the theme "Food is Medicine," highlighting the role fresh, locally grown foods play in supporting healthier lifestyles.
Organizers are seeking donations of seasonal produce, including tomatoes, sweet corn, cucumbers, peppers, green beans, potatoes, zucchini, squash, melons, apples, peaches and other locally grown fruits and vegetables.
"We hope to encourage healthy eating, support local agriculture and showcase the incredible abundance Greene County has to offer," organizers said.
Anyone interested in donating produce or learning more about the effort is encouraged to contact the Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District by emailing Cassandra-Arthur@iaswcd.org or calling 812-798-6530.
National Night Out is a nationwide community-building event that brings together residents, law enforcement, first responders and local organizations to strengthen neighborhood relationships and promote public safety. This year's Greene County event will also feature school supply giveaways, community resource booths, family activities and more.
