Greene County schools open girls basketball season week of Nov. 2

The leaves are turning, and the nights are cooler. It’s that time of the year again — the start of high school basketball season.

The girls take center stage this week as all five county schools hit the hardwood for their season openers.

Some county coaches report low total numbers for the varsity and junior varsity teams, so if you’re planning to attend a game you will need to check to make sure of the starting time. Some schools may not field a junior varsity team.

Bloomfield’s Siera Babcock and April Settles are both starting their fifth seasons at their respective schools. Both were standout players for the Cardinals and Wolverines.

Garrett Vandeventer at Linton and Brock Dowell at Shakamak are starting their third seasons at their respective schools, and Nathan Martindale is embarking on his first season as head coach at Eastern Greene.

The schedule for Nov. 2-7:

Nov. 3 — Eastern Greene at Owen Valley, WRV at West Vigo, Mitchell at Bloomfield, Shakamak at Vincennes Rivet

Nov. 5 — Eastern Greene at Brown County, West Vigo at Shakamak

Nov. 6 — Bloomfield at Loogootee

Nov. 7 — Linton at West Washington, South Knox at Eastern Greene, Sullivan at WRV, Shakamak at North Putnam Tournament
