A woman found rolling around in wet grass and hallucinating earlier this month was transported to a hospital for medical attention. Now she’s facing a charge of possession of marijuana.

April Michelle Ispas, 32, Indianapolis, has been summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing in September on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Worthington on Saturday, August 1.

Deputy James Carpenter of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a residence on West Indiana Street in Worthington at 2:25 p.m. when the sheriff’s department received a report of a suspicious woman who was seen rolling around in wet grass.

When Deputy Carpenter arrived, he saw a woman, later identified as Ispas, walk into the garage and sit down while another woman representing the property owner said Ispas was a friend of a man living in the residence but Ispas was not supposed to be there and they did not want Ispas to come back.

Deputy Carpenter reported Ispas either would not reply to his questions or she was saying things that made no sense. Ispas allegedly talked about dogs running around. The deputy said there were no dogs running around. Ispas said he could not see them but she could. Deputy Carpenter reported that due to her erratic behavior, he believed she might be under the influence of an illegal substance and was hallucinating.

Deputy Carpenter requested an ambulance and after they arrived and checked on her, EMS advised Ispas needed to go to the hospital.

When Deputy Carpenter checked her bag for weapons before putting it in the ambulance, he found a container with smoking pipes and a plastic bag with green plant material that later tested positive as marijuana.

The man who lived at the residence said Ispas had told him she had been using spice.

Deputy Carpenter filled out paperwork for the immediate detention of Ispas due to her being a danger to herself and others.

A criminal case was then filed against Ispas for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Court records show Ispas also has cases in Marion and Owen counties pending against her on charges that include criminal trespassing, criminal mischief and intimidation.
