Sandra Lynn Botkin, 56, Linton, was arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department on Saturday night, March 20.

The Linton Police Department got a call that Saturday night about a reckless driver. The caller said a black Jeep Liberty with a temporary plate almost hit the caller’s vehicle that was parked in a driveway, then almost wrecked into a ditch on C Street SE in Linton. The caller said she and another family member then followed the Jeep and it was driving on the wrong side of the road on A Street SE then made a couple of turns, driving on the wrong side of the road for most of the time, then turned into the parking lot of a business.

Officer Franklin was dispatched and located the Jeep, which pulled into a driveway on East Vincennes Street where he talked to the driver.

Botkin was identified as the driver of the black Jeep. Officer Franklin noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Botkin when he was talking to her but Botkin said she had not been drinking. Botkin failed standard field sobriety testing and said she had a medical condition with her leg that would make her unable to pass the tests. She agreed to take a chemical test and was transported to the police department.

Once at the LPD, Botkin allegedly said she had consumed two “great big” Budweiser beers at a friend’s house and had half a beer at the American Legion.

Two sufficient samples are required for a chemical test but Officer Franklin was able to obtain only one which showed she had a BAC of .140.

Botkin was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw – results pending.

Botkin was booked into the Greene County Jail at 9:15 p.m. Her bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $800 and was released on March 21.

Botkin is facing preliminary charges of:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.

The date for her initial hearing has not yet been set.
