A driver who allegedly admitted she was too drunk to drive was arrested after she stopped her vehicle in the middle of a state highway and appeared to be passed out.

Mary Christine Breedlove, 59, Morgantown, was arrested by Deputy Michael Coy of the Greene County Sheriff's Department on Friday, July 15.

Around 8:00 PM that Friday night, Greene County Dispatch started getting calls about a vehicle that was sitting in the middle of a highway in the Newberry area.

The first caller told a dispatcher that red Jeep was sitting in the middle of State Road 57 in a dangerous spot of a curve. Another caller told a dispatcher that he had talked with the female driver of the red Jeep who said she was really tired. The caller said he thought she was under the influence. He told her she was parked in the middle of the road and the driver responded that she didn't care. Then another caller told the dispatcher that they were able to get the vehicle out of the middle of the roadway but the driver was trying to start the vehicle and leave the scene. They also thought the driver was extremely intoxicated.

Deputy Coy was dispatched at 8:10 PM to an area on SR 57 south of Seventh Street, Newberry. When he arrived around 8:24 PM, he found a red Jeep Cherokee parked on the side of the southbound lane facing north. At that time another vehicle was parked behind the Jeep and two people told him this lady was passed out in the middle of the road.

The front windows of the Jeep were rolled down and the driver, later identified as Breedlove, told Deputy Coy that she was traveling to her mother's residence. She allegedly said she'd had too much to drink but she did not want to go to jail. During their conversation, Breedlove allegedly said she was coming from Trafalgar on her way to her mother’s house in Morgantown and that she was too intoxicated to drive.

Breedlove reportedly had some difficulty getting out of her vehicle and balancing and getting into the patrol vehicle but she was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Sheriff's Department where standard field sobriety testing was attempted but not completed because Breedlove was unable to stand with her feet together, to not sway and it was a safety issue.

Breedlove agreed to take a chemical test and was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw. On the way there she allegedly said, “I shouldn't have drank and drive.” Results from the blood draw are pending.

Breedlove was booked into the Greene County Jail at 11:16 PM with bond set at $4000 surety with 10% cash allowed. She posted $400 and was released on July 17.
