A Bloomfield man, arrested last week after he allegedly threatened to kill another man – that turned out to be a family member, is still in jail but will appear in court in the morning.
Sean K. Bays
Sean Kyle Bays, 50, Bloomfield, was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Davis Aerne and booked in to jail around 6:30 p.m. last Thursday, September 20.
Deputy Aerne, the investigating officer, said the sheriff’s office received a report on Thursday about threats allegedly made by Bays. A man had called in around 5:15 p.m. and said he was sitting in a parking lot in Bloomfield, afraid to go to his own home, because his son had threatened to kill him.
Deputy Aerne responded and the man provided recordings of voice mails he had received from Bays.
Aerne reported the man told him Bays had a flat tire earlier in the day and drove the vehicle to the Yoho Store in Solsberry on the flat tire causing the rim to be destroyed. Bays called his father who took a spare tire out to Bays but after he got there, an argument started and the father left and went on to another appointment.
Then around 12:48 p.m. Bays left a voice mail on the man’s phone which said it was 1 p.m., he was still there, thank you, that he was his f****** son and the man had better call him or he was going to go off. The deputy reported Bays said, “I will walk to Bloomfield and I will kill you.”
In a later message, Bays told the man he had gotten a ride from someone and as soon as the man got home, he was going to knock his head off.
Deputy Aerne went to the man’s residence and after several attempts, Bays did answer the door. Aerne reported that Bays said he got into an argument with his father but he did not comment about the voice mails.
Bays was detained and transported to jail where his bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Monday afternoon, Bays had not posted bond and was still in jail.
A criminal case was filed against Bays and he’s scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court tomorrow morning, on Tuesday, September 25, when he will be formally charged with intimidation where the threat is to commit a forcible felony – a Level 6 felony, and intimidation involving a threat to another to place them in fear of retaliation – a Class A misdemeanor.
