A rural Bloomfield woman who crashed into a bridge guard rail on the Calvertville Road last Wednesday was arrested after ambulance personnel and a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene.

Kelly Ann Thompson, 43, was taken into custody by GCSD Deputy Jordan Gooding.

Deputy Gooding was dispatched to the area of 3416 East Calvertville Road around 12:10 p.m. Wednesday on the report of a single vehicle crash.

When he arrived, he found a tan 2007 Toyota Camry had hit a bridge guard rail. The front passenger side of the car was hanging off the roadway.

Thompson was the driver, still sitting in the driver’s seat. She was checked out on the scene by personnel from the Greene County Ambulance Service and was not reported to be injured.

Gooding said he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage when speaking to Thompson.

Thompson allegedly told the deputy she had consumed three beers at the Spot in Bloomfield and was on her way home.

In probable cause documents prepared by Gooding, he said when he asked her what time it was, she said probably 6 p.m. It was actually 12:30 p.m. She was also described as having slurred speech, poor balance and kept trying to smoke a cigarette that was not lit.

She was transported to the sheriff’s department but allegedly fell asleep a couple of times on the way there, then became agitated and confused.

At GCSD, she allegedly failed standard field sobriety testing, could not produce enough air to successfully complete a breath test and was taken to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw – results are pending.

Thompson was booked in to jail and her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She posted $400 cash, was released and given a court date.

She is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on this afternoon, Monday, August 6, to face charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.
