Bloomfield man faces multiple OWI, habitual traffic violator charges after crash
/A Bloomfield man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies responded to a report of a pickup truck that had left the roadway and come to rest in a field west of Bloomfield.
Mark Anthony Mullis, 30, faces preliminary charges of Level 6 felony operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, Level 6 felony operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a prior conviction within seven years, Level 6 felony operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, Class A misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, and Class C misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies with the Greene County Sheriff's Department were dispatched around 5:08 p.m. July 6 after a caller reported that a pickup truck had left the roadway and entered a field near 1104 N. Warren Road. The caller told dispatch there did not appear to be any injuries.
When deputies arrived, they found a 1997 GMC Silverado approximately 50 feet off the east side of the roadway in tall grass. Several individuals, including Mullis, were already at the scene.
Court documents allege Mullis initially denied driving the truck. Deputies reported he displayed slurred speech, an unsteady balance, a disheveled appearance, and an aggressive demeanor. During the investigation, Mullis allegedly gave conflicting accounts of who had been driving the vehicle, at one point claiming an unidentified driver had run into the woods to chase coyotes.
According to the affidavit, deputies determined Mullis was a habitual traffic violator with no valid driver's license. Investigators also allege Mullis became confrontational during the investigation, threatening deputies at the scene and later making similar threats while being transported to Greene County General Hospital after a search warrant was sought for a blood draw.
As part of the investigation, deputies interviewed the reporting party, who told investigators she observed a man matching Mullis' description near the crash scene before other individuals arrived. Investigators also interviewed another female, who told deputies Mullis had called her shortly before 5 p.m. asking her to come to his location at the crash site. A local pastor also confirmed receiving a call from Mullis requesting assistance after initially providing an incorrect location, according to court records.
