Bloomfield driver accused of reckless driving
/A Bloomfield driver allegedly going 92 mph on a rainy highway, passing a car in a no-passing zone, is facing a charge of reckless driving.
Anthony L. Roach, 39, Bloomfield, is accused of reckless driving at an unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.
Sergeant Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff's Department was headed east on State Road 54, east of Sharkey Road, shortly before 7:00 PM on Monday, June 6, when he saw a blue 2018 Dodge Challenger headed west on SR 54. Sergeant Allor reported that as the Challenger passed by him, going in the opposite direction, he saw it pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. When he activated his rear radar, he clocked the challenger going 92 mph in a 50 mph zone. The road condition was wet and it was raining at that time.
Sergeant Allor turned around and hit the red and blue lights to make a traffic stop but while he was trying to catch up to the Challenger he had to pass two other vehicles. When he got to Blue Barn Road, he still could not catch up to the Challenger but then he saw the Challenger parked in the driveway of a residence on SR 54. He pulled into the driveway and asked a couple of women who were outside who was driving the Challenger. They said Anthony Roach.
When Sergeant Allor went to the front door and asked for Roach to come out and talk to him about his driving, Roach allegedly admitted he was driving a little fast. When Sergeant Allor said 92 mph, Roach allegedly said he should not have done it. When asked why he was driving so fast, Roach said “family issues.” A woman at the residence said she had asked Roach to come there because she was having an issue with her sister.
When Roach’s driver’s license status was checked, it was found to be a conditional license meaning it is only good for driving to and from work. Roach allegedly admitted he knew that.
Roach was not arrested but he was given a summons to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on June 20.
