After responding to a complaint regarding criminal mischief on April 20, Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department arrested a 22-year-old Bloomfield woman on charges of possession of methamphetamine.

Shelby Dawn Thomas was arrested by Lt. Marvin Holt on a Level 6 Felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Upon arrival at the scene on East Church Street in Bloomfield, the caller said he’d been at work all day and returned home and found many of his belongings broken. He alleged Thomas had gone into the apartment, broken several items, and stolen $3,000 from his vehicle. He also alleged she took money – extra change – from a clear plastic container inside his vehicle. Additionally, he noticed some remote control cars and parts were missing or had been thrown out a second-story window.

Lt. Holt entered the residence and according to the probable cause affidavit immediately saw broken items in the front living room, kitchen, and bedroom. He photographed the scene and headed back to his car.

While headed back to his patrol car, Lt. Holt saw Thomas returning to the residence. When asked about the broken items in the residence, Thomas denied breaking any; however, alleged she told him via text if he touched her things, she would touch his. Lt. Holt asked Thomas about the missing money. Thomas denied having any of the missing money even though when Holt walked around the car, he saw the clear plastic container described by the male caller in her vehicle. The container, according to the probable cause affidavit, was sitting on top of Thomas’s purse with $40 on top. Thomas told Lt. Holt she took the box because she didn’t have any gas money but went to Bloomington to get $40 from her mom. When Lt. Holt took possession of the box, inside he found a handful of pennies, a small screwdriver, and a plastic bag containing a clear crystal-like substance with the consistency of methamphetamine.

Thomas alleged she didn’t know what was in the container and accused the male caller of setting her up.

Thomas was transported to Greene County Jail where she is being held without bond pending her initial court hearing.
