Walter Dale Smith

Walter Dale Smith, 69, of Bloomington formerly of Bloomfield, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born January 24, 1949 in Greene County to Henry Lee and Dona Marie (Abram) Smith.

Dale started working at Wetterau Food Distribution the day after he graduated high school at Eastern High in 1967. He worked there for twenty-seven years until they closed their doors. He then went to Ivy Tech where he graduated on the Deans List with an associates degree. He then worked at Indiana University in the Physical Plant, retiring after seventeen years. After retiring he worked part time at Menards.

Besides being a hard worker, Dale could build or fix anything he set his mind to- A cedar chest, rebuilding a car, to building a log home. He had a love for music. Many friends recall sitting around, strumming a guitar and singing songs, whether it be gospel, Bob Segar, or Waylon Jennings. He also enjoyed camping with Sandy, whom he has been married to for over thirty-four years.

Dale is remembered as a sweet, kind, witty, amazing husband, dad, papaw, brother, uncle, son and friend. He will be sorely missed by all.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Sandy Kincaid Smith of Bloomington; his children, Robert Dale Smith (Jana) and Shelly Lynn Smith both of Bloomfield; his grandchildren, Rachael Sargent and Lanie Sargent; one brother, Randy Smith (Becky); brother and sister-in-laws, Rusty Giles (Sherry) and Eddie Allen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Steven Joe Smith, a sister, Pamela Sue Allen, one granddaughter, Britnee Kay Smith, and a nephew, Will Smith.
