Roma Lea Baker, 86, of Worthington, passed away peacefully at 6:55 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Glenburn Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 25, 1940, in Linton, Indiana, Roma was the daughter of Eugene “Gene” Gennicks and Marie (Davis) Gennicks. She built a life rooted in devotion to family, faith, hard work, and the small everyday joys that made people feel cared for.

On November 23, 1957, Roma married the love of her life, Max E. Baker. Together they shared 54 years of marriage, creating a home filled with family, memories, and steadfast love until Max’s passing in 2012.

Roma devoted more than 23 years to serving her community through her work at the Worthington Post Office. She was known for her warm heart and her appreciation for simple pleasures: settling in with a good book, finding a special treasure while shopping at Goodwill or other thrift stores, and creating beautiful quilts with care and patience. Her quilts reflected much of who she was - thoughtful, hardworking, generous, and always mindful of the people she loved. More than any hobby or accomplishment, Roma treasured her family. She found her greatest joy in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love, guidance, and presence will remain part of the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

Roma was a faithful member of Worthington Baptist Church for many years. Her faith was an enduring foundation in her life and brought her comfort, strength, and peace.

She is survived by her children, Max A. (Debbie) Baker, Mary Hunt, and Matthew (Patricia) Baker; her grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Baker, Brianne (Nathan) Martinson, Jessica Baker, Rachel Hunt, Benjamin (Lily) Baker, Justin (Christin) Baker, Nathan Hunt, Tasha (Nick) Angell, Judy Hunt, Grace Hunt, Lydia Hunt (Ashton Owens), Miranda Miller, and Marisa Miller; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Roma was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Max E. Baker; her son, Mike Baker; her son-in-law, Matt Hunt; and her brothers, Frank Gennicks, Larry “Turk” Gennicks, and Rex Gennicks.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, a Walton Funeral Service location, with her son, Matt Baker, officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
