Roger Lee Hacker

Roger Lee Hacker, 71, of Springville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Roger was born on March 9, 1954, in Bloomington, Indiana, to Herschel R. and Mary I. (Thompson) Hacker. He married the love of his life, Nancy (Roberts) Hacker, in 1976. They were rarely seen apart, especially at Eastern Greene sporting events and the many activities involving their grandchildren and great-nieces. Roger’s heart was deeply broken by Nancy’s passing in 2021 after 44 inseparable years together.

Roger’s early career included work at RCA, Farm Bureau, and delivering for Pepsi. He later joined Rogers Group, where he held multiple positions—from working in the lumberyard to laboring and driving trucks. He was also a long-time driver for Rogers Group racing team.

A devoted family man, Roger found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time with family and friends, good food and music, playing cards, and working on puzzles and models. Gifted in woodworking like his father, he built projects for loved ones and made countless improvements to their home. Roger was a great bowler and enjoyed golfing with friends and family—even if his score didn’t always reflect his effort.

Roger was also a loyal NASCAR fan, cheering for Bill Elliott, Kasey Kahne, and current favorite Chase Elliott. He could often be found in his recliner, watching a Hallmark movie or a Western, while playing handheld Tetris or Yahtzee. Many mornings were spent at the local restaurant with his “breakfast club,” where he enjoyed chatting with friends and neighbors.

Roger’s humor was legendary and always unexpected, but a laugh was guaranteed. Though not outwardly emotional, he was deeply dependable and would do anything to help. His quiet wisdom and steady presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children, Chad Hacker and Courtney Leinenbach; his grandchildren, Zadyn, Lenix, and Maven Leinenbach; his sister, Phyllis Sowders; and his nieces and nephews, Heather Perkins, Shannon Goodall (Brad), and Tracy Byers (Karen).

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents; and his grandparents, Frank and Minnie (Smith) Thompson and Robert and Mabel (Sims) Hacker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Cincinnati Christian Church in Bloomfield. Interment will follow at Solsberry Cemetery.

Public visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Eastern Greene Family Resource Fund.
