Rex Dean Tuttle

Rex Dean Tuttle, age 94, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 1:55 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Linton, IN on December 9, 1931, the son of Elmer & Vivian (Sims) Tuttle.

He was a graduate of Linton High School. He started working at Crane in 1953 and was a GS3 Engineer Draftsman for 35 years, a GS12 Supervisor Engineer Technician for many years and then worked for 5 years at Vitro Corp. Rex was a man deeply rooted in his passions, his community and his love for history. He found joy in music, spending many years playing the trumpet and lifting his voice in song as a member of his church choir.

A proud resident and historian of Linton, Rex devoted countless hours to preserving and sharing the rich local history he cherished. Through his writings on Facebook, he brought stories of the past to life, ensuring that the heritage of his hometown would not be forgotten. Rex was a devoted supporter of the Linton Miner sports teams, with a special love for football. Known as the longest-living Miner fan, his dedication and enthusiasm earned him an honorary sports pass- an acknowledgment of his lifelong loyalty and spirit.

He held a deep connection to his family roots, taking great pride in visiting and sharing the history of the Tuttle family homestead in Rocky Top, Tennessee. These trips were a meaningful way for him to honor his heritage and keep family stories alive. At home, Rex found comfort and companionship in his beloved cats, who were a constant source of joy in his life. Rex will be remembered for his love of music, his passion for history, his unwavering support of his community, and the warmth he shared with those around him.

Rex is survived by his loving children, Christie Lynn Maxwell of Spencer and Gary (Dan Young) Dean Tuttle of Indianapolis; grandsons, Justin Norris and Derrick Harper; great grandchildren, Damian (Kayla) Russell, Justyce Norris, Virginia Norris, Adriann St. John, Donte Norris, Simon Dennison and Sean Norris; great great grandchildren, Aaron Cook, Noalynn Russell, Isaiah Russell and Scotlynn Russell as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members who will cherish his memory and stories for generations.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Ruth (Norris) Tuttle; brother, Billy Dale Tuttle and sister, Thyra Faye Simpson.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton of Walton Funeral Service, Inc.
