Nona Louise Carmicheal

Nona Louise Carmicheal, age 93, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 3:00 am on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Glenburn Home in Linton. She was born in Tyrone, Oklahoma on September 27, 1928, the daughter of Clyde Oreen & Elsie Dale (McAlister) Carpenter.

The family moved from Oklahoma to Owen County, Indiana in 1931, where they lived until 1940 when they moved to Greene County.

Nona was a 1947 graduate of Marco High School. She worked at the F.W. Woolworth stope in Bloomington, then in 1948 she married Elmer Carmichael. They were later divorced. Nona worked as a nurses aid on the 3rd floor at Greene County General Hospital in Linton for many years until her retirement in 1992. She then worked in private homes caring for the sick for 10 years. Nona and her sisters helped care for their parents during their final illness.

Nona was faithful to the Lord, loved to church, and reading her bibles. She read the Bible through 12 times.

She was a member of the 12th Street Church of God in Linton for many years and enjoyed teaching the children”s Sunday School Class. She loved working with the children and was proud of their accomplishments and achievements.

She is survived by her son, Mark A. Carmicheal of Linton, whom she loved dearly and appreciated so much; four grandchildren, Tyler Allen (Jackie) Carmicheal, Crystal Dawn Carmicheal, Lindsey Dale (James Steward) Carmicheal, and Wendy Holcomb; seven great-grandchildren, Kinley, Laynie, Easton, Harper, Logan, Austin, and Avery, all in which gave her joy; and two sisters, Patty Spugeon and Menorah Stevens, as of whom she loved so very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Doris Wood.

Nona has gone to be with Jesus. She believed Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and that He suffered, bled, and died on Calvary’s Cross to save us from our sins. She believed He arose from the dead, and that He gives us Eternal Life, in Heaven, with Him forever.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
