Nila Gayle (Hamlin) Talbot
/Nila Gayle (Hamlin) Talbot, 98, of Washington, IN passed away at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Prairie Village in Washington, IN.
She was born August 21, 1927 in Worthington, IN to Earl R. Hamlin and Gertrude S. (Steward) Hamlin.
Nila Gayle was born and raised in Worthington until she moved to Florida, 1995. She attended Worthington school and graduated in 1945, attended 3 months of business school at Vincennes University.
She worked at the IGA in the bakery department, worked for the Worthington Times with WI Pryor and as bookkeeper and reporter. She was employed with General Electric in Linton, and retired from IU as desk clerk in Teter Quad dormitory. She worked several different jobs before leaving Indiana.
She moved to Florida in 1995 and purchased a unit in Midway Manor. She met Frank Talbot and they married in 1997 and became park managers in 2002 and retired from this job December 31, 2010.
She is survived by her son, Rusty Freeman of Ellettsville; son-in-law, Michael Steward of Worthington; four grandchildren, Curtis Lee Freeman, Amanda (Jason) Phegley of Indianapolis, IN, Rachael (Erin Blaydes) Leach of Crawfordsville, IN, Kyle (Alison) Steward of Worthington; seven great grandchildren; and many cousins and friends; step-children, Christy (Bud) Versbage of Orlando, FL, Larry (Paula) Talbot, Russellville, AL, Mike (Sharon) Talbot, Kewannee, IL, Suzee (Tim) Ballard Rockford, IL, Kathy Saparito, Boynton Beach, FL, and fourteen step-grandchildren, fifteen step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank A. Talbot, one infant daughter (Sarah Elayne Freeman), a son, Floyd W Freeman, daughter, Jane Lea (Freeman) Steward, daughter-in-law, Teresa (Shields) Freeman.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. In keeping with Nila’s wishes, cremation was chosen and interment will be at Worthington Cemetery to be put in the lot with her daughter, Sarah Elayne Freeman.
