Michael Frank "Mick" Xenakis
/Michael Frank "Mick" Xenakis, 82, of Linton, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 25, 2026, just days before his 83rd birthday.
Mick was born on November 4, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Michael Walter and Anna (Krzysiak) Xenakis. He grew up a Chicago kid and graduated from Gordon Technical High School. Mick learned about Linton through a fishing magazine and knew that one day he would have to move there to catch some big bass.
He worked steadily throughout his life, first at Western Electric, then at a warehouse in Illinois, and later for the Indiana State Highway. He was the kind of man who showed up and got the job done.
People who knew Mick will remember his good heart. He was happiest outdoors. Some of his best days were spent fishing with his brother George, and the two of them shared a bond that lasted their whole lives. Each spring Mick went looking for morels, and he took real pride in finding a good patch. He loved slow drives through the countryside, and he never got tired of watching for eagles. He also drove to the Chicago suburbs each year to spend lots of time with his sister Marcia. Many people in the Linton area knew Mick from his skills as a self-taught fish taxidermist and from seeing him in the old yellow fishing truck he drove around town. He took pleasure in simple things and never needed much to be content.
Mick's faith mattered to him, and he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton.
He leaves behind his sister, Marcia Faye, of Terre Haute, who will carry his memory with love.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother and lifelong fishing partner, George Michael Xenakis. Both Marcia and George agreed that "Mick was the best of us three siblings!" Mick is also survived by his aunt, Joan Xenakis, cousins Jeff and Johnny, and other relatives and close friends in Illinois and Linton.
Private services will be held. Mick will be laid to rest beside his parents at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Niles, Illinois, back home in the Chicago area where his story began. Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home of Linton, a part of Walton Funeral Service.
