James Mattox

James "Jim" Mattox, age 75, of Jasonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 29, 1943, the son of Wayne M. & Edith (Secrest) Mattox.

Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Borne. He worked at the Peabody Coal Mine as a coal miner for the majority of his career. He was a member of the American Legion Post #172, Jasonville Masonic Lodge #530 and the Wabash Valley Scottish Rite.

He would always help someone in need at the drop of a hat and people called him Dr. Dolittle because he was so good with children and animals. He truly believed he was born to be a dad and loved spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Marie (Trusty) Mattox of Jasonville; mother, Edith Bohnert; sons, Martin Wayne (Julie) Mattox of Jasonville and James Brent (Tna) Mattox of Linton; grandchildren, Dustin Wayne Mattox and Brooks Martin Mattox; step grandchildren, Kellsey (Dominick) Forgione, Paige (Boaz) Price, Kristopher Drury and Michael Drury; great grandchildren, Henrietta and Natalya Mattox; step great grandchildren, Grant, Ayrin, Ava, Brycen, Ella and Brynam; sisters Judith Ann Secrest and Brenda Kay (Tony) Rash and trusted furry companion, ChaChi; sister-in-law, Debra Graves of Linton; brother-in-law, Earl (Julia) Trusty of California; nieces, Debbie Coppenhaver, Theresa Keller, Terri Tanehill, Karen Pilot, Cindy Flowers and Lindsey Yeayer; nephews, Brad and Danny Richmond and several great nieces and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Mattox and sister, Nona Richmond.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Monday, September 16, 2019, with Anthony "Stump" Orman officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service.

A celebration of life dinner will be served at Grace Gospel Church at 4:00 P.M. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
