J-Kirk Wright
/J-Kirk Wright, 69, of Linton, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday evening, February 8, 2026, surrounded by the family who meant everything to him.
Born on November 4, 1956, in Linton, Kirk was the son of Jimmie K. and Connie Sue (Workman) Wright. He grew up with strong family roots, a love for telling a good story, and an early sense of humor that could light up any room.
A proud 1976 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, Kirk married his sweetheart, Kathy J. McCullough, on August 27, 1977. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and great memories. Kirk started working alongside his father in the family grocery business during high school, learning the value of hard work and honesty early on. Over the years, he served his community in many roles - as a pumper and equipment operator for Peabody Coal Company, street department commissioner for the City of Linton, and later as the Linton Sub-District Manager for INDOT. He retired from INDOT in 2017 from the maintenance department, proud of a career spent keeping his hometown running strong.
A man of simple joys, Kirk loved watching westerns and classic sci-fi films. He found peace in quiet evenings at home and joy in every game, recital, and family get-together that brought his loved ones together. Family were his pride and delight - he rarely missed a chance to brag about them. Kirk was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Vicksburg, where his faith anchored his life and gave him comfort in all seasons.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Kathy Wright; two sons, Justus Kirk Wright and Justin Kirk Wright; three grandchildren, Trevor Ray Wright, Josey Kirk Wright, and J-Kirk Wright; and four great-grandchildren, Chevelle, Ellie, Octavia, and Grace. He also leaves behind his brothers, J. Ken (Tammy) Wright and Jay Kevin (Michelle) Wright, and his sister, Jill (Jerry) Phegley, each of whom shared a special bond with him.
Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie K. and Connie Sue Wright, whose memory and example guided him throughout his life.
