Ira V. (Vernon) Zigler
/Ira V. (Vernon) Zigler, 92, of Newberry, Indiana, passed away on December 7, 2022, in Vincennes. He was born in Newberry, September 29, 1930, to Ransom and Glodiene (Thomas) Zigler.
On January 27th, 1952, he took Norma G. (Howard) as his bride, and they had 70 years together.
Vernon served our great country with his service in the US Army stationed in Korea. He was a master mechanic first learning his trade working with Owen Miller and later working for Wilson Chevrolet. Later he opened his own DX service station in Newberry. He was then recruited to work for the Rogers Group where he was employed until his retirement in 1992. He finished his career as superintendent of the Knox County facility. He was a member of Newberry Masonic Lodge #166 F & AM, York Rite of Bloomington, and Newberry Eastern Star. He loved watching NASCAR on Sunday afternoons. He loved working on cars and repairing anything that could be fixed. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV and loved to winter in Florida and spending time with his family. He was quite the joke teller and enjoyed meeting with friends and family at the Golden Corral. He loved his dog Buddy and his cat Tom.
Family left to cherish the memory of Vernon include his wife, Norma, daughter, Connie (Craig) Huffine of Newberry, grandchildren, Ryan (Sheri) Huffine, Wyatt Huffine, Kyla (Craig) Franklin, Shawn (Lisa) Porter and great-grandchildren, Caleb Porter, Colt Franklin and Caroline Franklin.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Linda Porter and his aunt, Floriene Thomas.
Military Graveside Services by Odon VFW Post #9627 and Masonic Services by Newberry Masonic Lodge #166 F & AM at 12:45 PM Monday. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM Monday, December 12, 2022. Friends and family may gather for viewing 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with Rev. Robert Bruner. Vernon will be laid to rest in Prairie Chapel Cemetery following the service.
