Donald "Don" Lawson

Donald "Don" Lawson, 90, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his home in Linton, surrounded by love and comfort.

Born July 10, 1935, in Linton to Gilbert H. and Estelle I. (Collins) Lawson, Don grew up with a strong sense of family, hard work, and community. He graduated in 1955 from Midland High School before he began working at Linton Auto supply. He then worked for Rollison Tractor Sales and became Manager at Rollison Honda Sales in Bloomfield and Scotland. He then started his lifelong career as a carpenter and millwright in Indianapolis, retiring from the Millwrights' Local Union #1076 in 2000. More than just a trade, woodworking was Don's gift. His hands finely crafted pieces that his family and friends will treasure for generations. He had a special talent for restoring antiques, bringing worn wood back to life in ways that reflected both skill and patience.

Don lived his life with kindness at the center. He never met a stranger and was known for his easygoing nature, gentle smile, and willingness to offer help whenever it was needed. Faith and fellowship were important to him, and he was a longtime member of Saron United Church of Christ in Linton as well as the International Wood Collectors Society, where he shared his passion with others who appreciated the beauty of wood.

More than anything, Don was devoted to his family. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Lawson (Tim Bovenschen), and son-in-law, James Teague. He was a proud grandfather to Brandy (Eddy) Lammert, Amanda (James) Kent, Chelsea (Jack) Garner, and Nicole LaPointe; and a loving great-grandfather to Carly Kent, Waylon Kent, and Gemma Garner; and great-great grandfather to Oakley, Lyla, and Coralye. He is also survived by his sister, Stella Fields, and his dear friend, Janice Haney, who held a special place in his heart.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Susanne Jane (Dunning) Lawson; his daughter, Donna Teague; brothers, Paul and Harold Lawson; sisters, Ruby Stidd, Corrine Mair, and Erma Jean Sinders; and his faithful companion, Lucky.

A funeral service honoring Don's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, with Ron Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the service time at the funeral home.

In memory of Don's generous spirit, memorial donations may be made to the Linton Food Pantry, through the funeral home.

Online condolences may be shared at www.welchcornett.com.

Those who knew him will remember a man who built not only with wood, but with love - a man whose craftsmanship, laughter, and humble heart will be missed dearly.
