Cory David Flater

Cory David Flater, 50, of Linton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, at his home. Born on February 8, 1975, in Linton to David and Marsha (Luxton) Flater, Cory spent his life rooted in the town and community he loved so much.

Cory grew up in and was a member of the Linton Church of Christ. A proud 1993 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, Cory was a true Miner - on and off the field. He played football and baseball and carried his love for the game into every stage of his life. After studying at Vincennes University, Cory worked for the City of Linton, SECCO, and later Boston Scientific in Spencer, where he valued hard work, good humor, and the friendships he made along the way.

Cory’s love of sports ran deep. On game days, you could count on him cheering for the Linton Miners, Indiana University basketball and football, Notre Dame football, the Dodgers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a knack for turning even a simple conversation about a game into an animated event, often punctuated with his trademark grin and quick wit. But more than anything, Cory will be remembered for his heart. His personality filled every room - radiant, funny, welcoming, and genuine. Cory was the kind of person who never met a stranger, and once you were his friend, you were his friend for life. His sense of humor and gift for physical comedy could lift anyone’s spirit, and he leaves behind countless smiles, memorable stories, and a lasting example of kindness.

Cory is survived by his loving parents, Dave and Marsha Flater; his cherished daughter, Berkeley Flater, who was his greatest joy; his sister, Jill (Steve) Weber; his brother, Clay (Erin Sanders) Flater; and many cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

A funeral service to celebrate Cory’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, of Walton Funeral Service. In honor of Cory, please wear your favorite sports attire. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
