Chester A. "Chet" McCammon

Chester A. "Chet" McCammon, 91, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. Born in Paxton on October 9, 1934, he was the son of Elbert and Mabelle (Wilbur) McCammon.

Chet lived a life marked by hard work, creativity, and devotion to his family and community. A proud 1952 graduate of Carlisle High School, he went on to earn a degree in Industrial Arts from Indiana State University in 1976, followed later by his master's degree. He shared his talents in many ways over the years, working as a carpenter, painter, salesman, and teacher. Throughout the years he sold shoes at Maxwell Bevis in Sullivan, sold men's clothing at Schultz Department Store in Terre Haute, taught Industrial Arts at Eastern, Smithville in Brown County, and Shakamak schools. He also worked at Bender Lumber and Morrison Brothers Construction. In later years, he and his wife, Donna, started Tropical Sno in Linton and Sullivan, bringing a bit of joy to these communities.

Chet was a faithful member of Lincoln Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was known for his steady presence, kind heart, and willingness to serve. He enjoyed ceramics, coin collecting, basketball games, and professional wrestling, and he appreciated the simple pleasures that made life richer.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Bill) Morrison; son, Brad (Luanne) McCammon; four grandchildren, Jason (Kirsten) Morrison, Jared (Allie) Morrison, Kelsey (Jon) Hall, and Carley McCammon; seven great-grandchildren, Will Morrison, Reid Morrison, Zach Morrison, Ella Morrison, June Morrison, Izzy Morrison, and Miles Hall; sister-in-law, Lisa McCammon; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 67 years, Donna Rose (Houpt) McCammon; and his brothers, Leland McCammon and Norman McCammon.

A funeral service to celebrate Chet's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, with Cliff Gano officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Christian Church through the funeral home.
