Billy Dale Carpenter, age 68, of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully at 6:13 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at I U Health, Bloomington. He was born in Linton, IN on September 11, 1951, the son of Dale & Gloria (Hamner) Carpenter.

He was a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School. He graduated from Franklin College where he played basketball on scholarship and earned his Bachelor degree in Education while there. He was named "Mr. Basketball of Greene County" in 1969. He has worked at Worthington Elementary and Jr. High School as well as Linton-Stockton Jr. High School and White River Valley throughout his teaching years. He also served as the Athletic Director at Linton-Stockton for 4 years and he was also a beloved basketball coach and baseball coach for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening and spending time with his family.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Diane (Smith) Carpenter of Bloomfield; sons, Steve (Chantel) Carpenter of Worthington and Mike Carpenter of Mt. Carmel, IL; grandsons, Trent (Alysa) Carpenter of Dugger and Trey Carpenter of Worthington; brother, Dan Carpenter of Linton and beloved dog, Jack.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Private services will be observed by the family.
