A Worthington man will be in court in the morning to face charges related to his arrest last week. He’s accused of threatening employees at a store in Linton and allegedly trying to punch the store manager but being too intoxicated to land the punch.

Shadric Scott Jones, 41, of rural Worthington, was arrested last Tuesday morning, June 23, by Linton Police Chief Paul Clark when Chief Clark and LPD Deputy Chief Debbie McDonald responded to an incident at Walmart in Linton.

The officers were dispatched last Tuesday morning on the report that an intoxicated man was trying to fight employees, threatening them, telling them he had a gun.

When they arrived, store employees directed them to a Ride Solutions van that was leaving the property. They stopped the van. Jones was a passenger.

The driver told officers Jones had gotten a ride from his residence to the store. The van waited for him to shop then when he returned to the van for the ride home, the driver was unaware Jones had any kind of trouble while in the store.

Officer McDonald, the investigating officer, reported Jones showed signs of intoxication and when Chief Clark told Jones he was going to the hospital for a medical check before being taken to jail, Jones resisted but was taken into custody and transported.

When Officer McDonald talked to store employees, one said they heard Jones yelling in the liquor aisle about alcohol and a gun. She asked if she could help him then said she’d go to the back of the store to find what he wanted. Then she called her supervisor.

McDonald talked to the store manager, an Asset Protection Associate, an employee from the deli department and an employee from receiving in the back.

Jones is accused of yelling and being rude, asking some employees if they wanted to fight and telling one he was going to die that day. Jones is accused of attempting to punch the store manager with a closed fist but his movement was so slow, the manager just stepped out of the way and Jones was unable to land the punch.

Jones was booked into jail before 11 a.m. with bond set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

He’s scheduled to appear early in the morning, Tuesday, June 30, for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court when he will be formally charged with:

Intimidation where threat is to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony,
Resisting law enforcement – knowingly or intentionally forcibly resists, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Disorderly conduct – engages in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
