Woman arrested for drugs was with man wanted in another county

LPD took two people to jail following a traffic stop, a man wanted in another county and a woman who was charged with numerous drug charges when she went to court last week.

Summer Dawn Myers, 32, Linton, and Christopher Heath Raney, 43, Jasonville, were both arrested by Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department on Saturday, June 18.

Officer Jackson was on patrol around 9:45 PM when he saw Summer Myers driving a green 1997 Dodge Dakota on A Street NE in Linton. Officer Jackson knew her driver’s license was suspended and after witnessing her driving, he initiated a traffic stop which was conducted on A Street NE just before 9th Street NE.

Myers handed her identification card over to Officer Jackson claiming she had paid the BMV to reinstate her license but records showed that her license was not valid and that she was convicted of driving while suspended in January of 2021.

Christopher Raney was a passenger who also provided his identification card and admitted he had a suspended driver's license.

LPD Officer Wayman JR Blazier arrived to assist and Myers and Raney were asked to exit the vehicle and told it would be towed since there was no licensed driver.

During the required vehicle inventory, Officer Jackson found a smoking device with burnt residue in the center console and Myers allegedly said it was for THC, that she smoked wax and there was a marijuana pipe in there as well. The officer also reported locating a clear plastic zip bag containing a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, a metal container containing several types of pills, a zip bag containing plant seeds which Myers allegedly admitted were marijuana seeds, and another smoking device containing burnt material with the odor of marijuana. Some of the pills were later identified as amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, and buprenorphine hydrochloride and naloxone hydrochloride, which are controlled substances.

Raney said Myers had picked him up in Jasonville and they were going to pawn some items which were in the bed of the truck but nothing illegal was found within these items and Raney said the illegal items found in the vehicle did not belong to him. Myers allegedly admitted the illegal items found in the vehicle belonged to her.

It turned out Raney was wanted on an active warrant issued out of Martin County and when dispatch checked with Martin County, they confirmed they would extradite him.

Both Myers and Raney were taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail around 9:30 p.m.

Raney was held without bond for transfer to Martin County.

Myers was held without bond pending her court appearance at an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court on June 21 when her bond was set at $5000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

Myers has been charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance, both Class A misdemeanors,

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor,

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, and

  • Driving while suspended, a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years, a Class A misdemeanor.
