A Vincennes man was arrested Friday night after a motorist reported a vehicle swerving across the center line, leading officers to investigate an alleged impaired driver.

Lance Ryan Krebbs, 29, was arrested at 9:23 p.m. July 24 on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine, Class A misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, and Class C misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began when a motorist contacted the Clay County Sheriff's Office to report a vehicle that was repeatedly crossing the center line. The caller advised dispatch she was driving a work vehicle equipped with a dashboard camera and continued providing updates as the information was relayed to the Greene County Sheriff's Office.

Linton Police Officer Jocelyn Astleford located and stopped the vehicle, a 2002 Honda Accord, on State Road 59 near County Road 400. Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Herschel Blankenship, Jasonville Police Officer Skyler Scott and Linton Police Officer Cade Herndon also responded to assist.

Deputy Blankenship reported observing Krebbs leaning against his vehicle with an unsteady balance and slurred speech.

According to the affidavit, Krebbs agreed to perform field sobriety testing but was unable to provide an adequate breath sample for a preliminary breath test. He refused the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, telling officers his eyes were "messed up."

Police allege Krebbs displayed four of eight clues of impairment during the walk-and-turn test, including missing heel-to-toe steps, using his arms for balance and stepping off the line. During the one-leg stand test, investigators said Krebbs began before instructions were complete, lost his balance and refused to continue the test.

Krebbs consented to a chemical test after being advised of Indiana's implied consent law and was transported to Greene County General Hospital, where a blood sample was obtained.

While Krebbs was at the hospital, officers conducted an inventory of the vehicle before it was towed. According to the affidavit, officers located a glass pipe containing a white crystalline substance. Police said the residue field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Krebbs was transported to the Greene County Jail without incident.
