The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, October 29, on State Road 57 on the bridge over the White River just north of Newberry. The highway was closed from 5:45 p.m. until 7:25 p.m.

Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Logan Milligan reported two vehicles were involved in a head-on crash on the bridge.

Mark Hampton, 57, Tennyson, Ind., was southbound on State Road 57 in a silver 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. According to Deputy Milligan, Hampton lost control of his truck on the bridge. The truck then traveled left of the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle head-on.

Both Madison Pilant and Savannah Vanhentenryck were transported to Greene County General Hospital by the Greene County Ambulance Service with unspecified injuries that were not reported to be life-threatening.

Hampton was not reported as injured.

The bridge was not damaged.

In addition to personnel from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and the Greene County Ambulance Service, the Newberry Fire Department responded to assist along with Bill’s Auto Towing.
