A summons to appear in court for compulsory school attendance violation has been issued for a Worthington woman after her child has more than 10 unexcused absences thus far this semester.

On Dec. 11, Pamela Martinez was issued a summons to appear in Greene Superior Court on Feb. 8. According to a probable cause affidavit written by Michael Coy, chief of the White River Valley School Corporation Police Department, Martinez’s child has 12.5 unexcused absences.

On Nov. 3, Coy wrote he made contact with Martinez to deliver an attendance letter. Martinez alleged the child had been frequently sick and had gone to the doctor but was unsure why doctor’s notes had not been given to the school.

On Nov. 29, Coy wrote he again made contact with Martinez. This time, he delivered a second attendance letter. According to the probable cause affidavit, Martinez said the child had been to the doctor but was unsure if doctor’s notes were getting turned in. Coy advised Martinez to locate doctor’s notes or contact the doctor’s office to obtain duplicate notes.

As of Nov. 30, per the probable cause, no notes had been received and the student has 12.5 unexcused absences.
