Solsberry man facing charges of child molesting, incest, neglect

A Solsberry man is facing multiple felony charges after a child disclosed concerns to school staff, prompting an investigation by the Indiana Department of Child Services and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed, 42-year-old Richard Fry is facing 10 felony counts including child molesting, incest, dissemination of material harmful to minors, vicarious sexual gratification, and obstruction of justice after a Nov. 26 arrest.

The investigation began on Feb. 20, 2023, when a staff member from Eastern Greene Elementary School contacted DCS after a nine-year-old child—identified in court documents only as Witness 1—made a concerning disclosure to a teacher.

DCS notified Detective David Elmore of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, who responded to the school to conduct an initial interview. The child reported witnessing behavior between her father and an older sibling—identified as Victim 1—that caused her to believe something inappropriate was occurring.

A forensic interview was later conducted at Susie’s Place Child Advocacy Center in Bloomington, where the child again described witnessing conduct she perceived as sexual in nature. She also described the home’s sleeping arrangements and indicated that the incident occurred early that morning before school.

Detective Elmore noted in the affidavit that the child was hesitant during the interview but consistently reported the same core information. Further investigation identified the older sibling as Fry’s biological child.

According to the affidavit, Victim 1 later admitted the abuse had occurred. She stated the conduct began when she was around eight years old and continued into her teenage years. The victim said Fry manipulated and brainwashed her, which she believed contributed to her not disclosing the abuse earlier.

Based on the statements provided and subsequent investigation, prosecutors filed the following charges against Fry:

  • Child molesting where the defendant is at least 21 years of age

  • Child molesting, fondling, or touching with a child under 14

  • Incest but victim is less than 16 years old

  • Vicarious sexual gratification victim under 16, but older than 13

  • Dissemination of matter harmful to minors

  • Incest, but victim is less than 16 years old

  • Incest

  • Incest

  • Obstruction of justice–case is domestic violence/child abuse

Due to the nature of the allegations, no additional details identifying the minor children or describing the reported conduct will be released.

Fry is being held without bond in the Greene County Jail.
