Sandborn man arrested for meth in Linton
/A Sandborn driver told an officer he had not yet consumed the Crown Royal drink that was sitting in the cup holder, but the officer found meth in the truck and the driver still ended up in jail.
Wendell Dale Stewart, 30, Sandborn, was arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department late Wednesday night, March 3.
Officer Franklin was northbound on South Main Street in Linton around 8:42 that Wednesday when he saw a southbound black 1991 Chevrolet S10 with a headlight out. He initiated a traffic stop.
Stewart was the driver who said he’d just mixed Crown Royal in his McDonald’s cup that was in a cup holder within his reach. But he said he had not consumed it yet and he wanted to let the officer know.
When Stewart was asked to exit the truck, he admitted he had marijuana in his pocket and agreed to a search of his person and his truck.
Officer Franklin reported he did find Stewart in possession of marijuana and he also found an ink pen cylinder that contained a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. Other straws with a white crystal residue were also found in the truck.
Stewart was transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 10:24 p.m. He was first held without bond pending court appearance. He has since been in court and was charged with:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,
Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
His bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has posted $500 bond and been released from jail.
