Report of suspicious activity in Solsberry area results in arrest

When deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity at a location in eastern Greene County, they found a man inside a car that had been parked for several days behind some storage units. The car had been reported as stolen and a deputy arrested the man for meth possession.

Jason Franklin Bryant Jr.

Jason Franklin Bryant Jr., 44, Solsberry, was arrested by Deputy Michael Coy of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday night, February 9.

Deputy Coy, the lead investigator, was dispatched along with Deputy Andrew Weeks around 7:22 p.m. Wednesday to the location of some storage units on North State Road 45 in the Solsberry area after suspicious activity was reported to Greene County Dispatch.

The owner of the storage units reported a silver Chevrolet passenger car had been parked behind the storage units for several days and he was concerned someone was living in the vehicle. He provided the out-of-state license plate number and said the rear window on the driver’s side was busted out with plastic over it.

When the deputies arrived and found the car, with a Michigan license plate, the front passenger door was open and a man identified as Jason Bryant was in the passenger seat looking under the cover of a partially disassembled dashboard. He allegedly said he’d dropped the ignition key through the front vents and he was trying to recover the key. He also said he’d been dropped off there around 5 p.m. to try to recover the key and he was helping another man with recovering the vehicle. The vehicle turned out to have been reported as stolen out of Monroe County.

Bryant was taken into custody and when records were checked, Deputy Coy determined Bryant had active warrants out for his arrest in both Monroe and Greene counties.

Deputy Coy reported that during a search of Bryant’s person prior to transport, he found a partially broken glass smoking device with a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Bryant was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:30 p.m. He was being held without bond pending court appearance.

When he appears in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing, he’ll be charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
