Reckless driver jailed Monday morning for going over 120 mph on I-69

When an ISP trooper attempted to stop a speeder on I-69 Monday morning, the driver failed to pull over right away and allegedly accelerated to speeds over 120 mph.

Carlos Daniel Cortez Hernandez, 22, Bloomington, was arrested by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Kent Winstead on Thursday morning, June 24.

Trooper Winstead was on patrol on I-69 when he saw a black Acura passenger car traveling in excess of 100 mph hour on the interstate. When he hit the emergency lights and sirens and attempted to catch up to the vehicle, the driver failed to yield and instead of stopping, sped up to speeds over 120 mph.

The vehicle was eventually stopped and the driver was identified as Carlos Hernandez.

Hernandez was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 10:57 a.m. on preliminary charges of:

  • Resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, a Level 6 felony, and

  • Reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Hernandez posted $450 and was released later the same day.
