Joey Allen Jacobs, 35, Spencer, was arrested by Indiana State Police Trooper Chance Humphrey last Thursday, June 18.

Late Wednesday night, around 10:15 p.m., Trooper Humphrey was traveling behind a white 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on State Road 43 and saw the Tahoe cross the double yellow lines twice. He initiated a traffic stop.

Jacobs was the driver who said he was tired from working all day and was not aware he had crossed the double yellow lines.

While the stop was ongoing, Mitchell Police Officer Shaun Cabral stopped to see if the trooper needed assistance and Trooper Humphrey asked him to run his K9 around the vehicle for a sniff. During the sniff, K9 Jack alerted to the odor of narcotics in the Tahoe.

Trooper Humphrey reported a green glass smoking device with a residue that field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine was located in the Tahoe.

Jacobs was transported to the Greene County Jail and booked in at 12:02 a.m. Thursday. He was initially held without bond pending court appearance.

When Jacobs appeared for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court yesterday, June 23, he was formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

His bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Jacobs has since posted $450 and been released.
