One seriously injured in early Wednesday shooting incident, suspect in custody

Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell has confirmed that Linton police are actively investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning. Jerrell said the victim is in serious condition in an Indianapolis hospital and one suspect is in custody.

Jerrell said dispatch at the Linton Police Department received a call around 5:30 a.m. reporting that a male subject had been shot. The shooting occurred in Linton.

Greene County Rescue/Greene County Ambulance Service responded to the scene and the victim was transported to Greene County General Hospital.

The victim was then transferred to a hospital in Indianapolis.

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jerrell said the adult victim is alive and undergoing treatment, but his condition is serious.

“We have an adult male in custody that we are talking to,” said Jerrell.

Although the suspect is being detained, as of 2 p.m., he had not yet been booked in to jail and it was not yet known what criminal charges might be filed.

This investigation is fluid and the details released to the public are still sketchy.

Jerrell said he hopes to be able to release additional information at some point later in the day or this evening.

The Indiana State Police and Greene County Sheriff’s Department are assisting in the investigation.
