One driver was arrested for OVWI after a crash involving two vehicles occurred on State Road 59 north of Linton last Friday night.

Paul G. Goodman, 27, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Michael Coy of the Greene County Sheriff's Department last Friday night, October 21.

Goodman was the driver of a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, one of two pick-up trucks involved in a crash on SR 59 north of Linton around 7:15 PM Friday.

Deputy Coy, the investigating officer, was dispatched and when he arrived, Officer Skylar Scott of the Jasonville Police Department, Officer Alan Jackson of the Linton Police Department and Indiana Conservation Officer McDonald were already on the scene along with numerous emergency vehicles.

The other officers informed Deputy Coy that an open bottle of liquor was inside Goodman's vehicle and Goodman was in an ambulance being evaluated by rescue personnel. Goodman was not transported but refused further medical treatment.

In the information released about Goodman's case, no other details about the other driver were included.

Goodman submitted a breath sample for a portable breath test on the scene which indicated he had a blood alcohol content of .173. The legal limit is .08. Deputy Coy reported that in addition to emitting the odor of an alcoholic beverage, Goodman showed several signs of impairment including slurred and mumbled speech, poor dexterity and poor balance.

Goodman was transported to the Linton Police Department where he failed standard field sobriety testing but agreed to take a certified chemical test but was unable to give a sufficient sample so was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a blood draw - results pending.

Goodman was then transported to the sheriff's department where he was booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:55 PM with bond set at $8000 surety with 10% cash allowed. He posted $800 and was released on October 22.

According to Deputy Coy, in January of 2020, Goodman was convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an alcohol concentration of .08 or higher with a prior conviction and at one point Goodman allegedly said this would be his third OVWI. He also said he was on his way home at the time of the crash and there was a deer.

Goodman is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on November 3 for his initial hearing when he will be formally charged with:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person with a prior conviction within seven years, a Level 6 felony,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, and
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, a Level 6 felony.
