One woman was arrested early Monday after her car wound up in a ditch and a K-9 alerted to the presence of a controlled substance.

Lacey Margaret Stewart, 21, of Sandborn, was arrested by Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department after Officer Riley responded to a vehicle in a ditch late Sunday, February 9. Stewart was booked into the Greene County Jail before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, February 10.

Officer Riley was dispatched just before midnight to a location on 8th Street SW at the intersection with C Street SW in Linton where someone had reported a suspicious vehicle was stuck in a ditch. A resident in the area said the car was stuck but trying to get out of the ditch and video from his surveillance camera showed a man from the vehicle had taken off running away.

When Officer Riley arrived, he found a black Pontiac G6 in the ditch with Stewart behind the wheel. Stewart allegedly said she had trouble seeing out of her windshield, miscalculated her turn and went into the ditch. She denied anyone else being with her and nobody else was located. Officer Riley reported she seemed very animated and was not able to sit still.

LPD Officer Adam King and Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Zach Goad arrived to assist on the scene and Officer Riley deployed his K-9 Kona who alerted to the presence of controlled substances.

During a search of the vehicle, Officer Riley reported they found a plastic straw with a white crystal-like substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine along with a couple of pipes with burnt green leafy substances.

Stewart was initially held without bond pending an appearance in court. She is facing preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
