Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy killed in crash on SR 45

A tragic crash earlier today on State Road 45 at Eller Road in Monroe County claimed the life of Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy James Driver.

On Monday, March 29, the Monroe County Sheriff’s department was responding to a motor vehicle crash with injuries around 4 p.m. While responding to this crash, with emergency lights and sirens activated, Reserve Deputy James Driver was involved in a separate crash on West State Road 45 and West Eller Road in Monroe County.

Deputy Driver was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The Indiana State Police is investigating the crash.

Deputy Driver is originally from the United Kingdom and resided in Spencer. He was sworn into the Monroe County Indiana Sheriff’s Office Reserve Division in June of 2018 and was a graduate of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Academy. Deputy Driver leaves behind a wife, Anna Driver, one daughter, and two stepchildren.
