A Linton woman, headed south on SR 67 around 3 a.m. last Saturday, ran off the road and landed in a ditch north of Switz City. She was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Cassie Marie Moss, 21, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Zachary Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department following a car crash early last Saturday, June 12.

At 3:21 a.m. last Saturday, a driver called 911 to report there was a car in a ditch with the headlights still on in the area of State Road 67 and County Road 200 North. Deputy Zachary Goad, the lead investigator, was dispatched along with Deputy Devan Goad.

The deputies found a gray 2006 Buick Lucerne in the ditch and the driver, later identified as Cassie Moss, sitting on the ground near the driver’s side door. Moss said she swerved to miss hitting a deer.

Deputy Zachary Goad said it looked like Moss was southbound on SR 67 when she lost control of the car and hit a guardrail on the east side of the road, then traveled off the west side of the road and into the ditch.

An ambulance was also dispatched and Moss was checked by medical personnel but she refused treatment.

Moss said she was on her way home and allegedly admitted she drank three or four Busch Light beers a few hours earlier.

Moss allegedly failed field sobriety testing on the scene then failed again after being transported to the sheriff’s department. Deputy Zachary Goad reported he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Moss and she showed numerous signs of impairment including poor balance.

The results of a certified breath test showed she had a blood alcohol content of .154. The legal limit is .08.

When Moss was booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:09 a.m. with bond set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed, a jailer reported Moss had a glass smoking device in her purse. It had the odor of burnt marijuana.

Moss posted $400 and was released later the same day as her arrest.

She is facing preliminary charges of:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Her initial hearing is set for June 24.
