Greene County voters will have an opportunity to meet candidates seeking local and state offices during a “Meet the Candidates” event Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Linton.

The event, hosted by the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Roy Clark Community Building.

Candidates from county and state races have been invited to participate, according to Chamber Executive Director Cheryl Hamilton. The format is designed to give voters both an opportunity for individual conversations with candidates and a chance to hear each participating candidate address the entire audience.

“Our format is going to let the public mingle to the individual candidate tables and then offer each candidate two minutes at the microphone,” Hamilton said. “This allows someone to speak with all the candidates or select candidates one on one, but we thought it was important to give everyone an open microphone.”

The event provides residents with an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about candidates and hear their views on issues affecting the community before casting their ballots in the November election.

Rather than using a traditional debate format, attendees will be able to move among individual candidate tables and decide which candidates they would like to speak with directly. The two-minute microphone portion will also allow attendees to hear from candidates they may not have an opportunity to visit individually.

The Chamber is promoting the event with the message, “Your community. Your voice. Your vote.”

The “Meet the Candidates” event will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton.
