Linton Police Department investigating Sunday night shooting

One man was injured in a shooting incident in Linton on Sunday night, May 19. On Monday morning, LPD Police Chief Troy Jerrell confirmed officers are continuing to investigate.

On Monday morning, details were sketchy.

Chief Jerrell said two male individuals were involved in the incident that occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday outside a residence on 11th Street NE in Linton.

The man who was shot was transported to Greene County General Hospital then transferred to a hospital in Terre Haute. His injuries were not reported to be life-threatening.

The injured man is not from Greene County but the shooting suspect is from Linton.

Chief Jerrell said investigators believe the man was shot by a small caliber rifle and police do have the weapon.

The Linton Police Department is leading the investigation, assisted by Crime Scene Technicians from the Indiana State Police and personnel from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Other law enforcement officers from surrounding towns also assisted Sunday night on the scene including an officer from the Lyons Police Department and possibly others.

The suspect has not been taken into custody but Jerrell said police know who the shooter is and he was interviewed at the police department Sunday night.

No additional information has been released as of 9 a.m. Monday.

Jerrell said it’s possible more details will be released later in the day but on Monday morning, officers were continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will be consulting with the Greene County Prosecutor.
