A 42-year-old Linton man is facing two felony charges following an investigation into allegations involving a teenage girl, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

Justin T. Barnard is charged with Level 4 felony child molesting and Level 5 felony sexual misconduct with a minor, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Sept. 23 in Greene County.

The investigation began after the Greene County Department of Child Services received a report Sept. 9 involving a 17-year-old girl and allegations of inappropriate contact by Barnard, who was identified in court documents as a family member. The girl participated in a forensic interview at Susie's Place in Bloomington the following day.

During the interview, the girl alleged the inappropriate contact began when she was 12 and continued until she was 14. Court documents describe multiple alleged incidents at the family's Linton residence. GreeneStreets is withholding additional details because of the girl's age and the sensitive nature of the allegations.

Investigators also interviewed two teenage friends of the girl. One told police the girl had disclosed during the 2025-26 school year that Barnard had allegedly touched her inappropriately. Another said the girl recently disclosed the allegations to her, which she then reported to an adult family member.

Greene County Sheriff's Office Detective Shawn Cullison interviewed Barnard at the Linton Police Department on Sept. 22. Barnard was advised of his Miranda rights and initially denied inappropriate contact, according to the affidavit. He described one instance of contact as accidental.

Investigators also obtained a search warrant for Barnard's cellphone. Barnard denied taking inappropriate photographs of the girl and turned the phone over to investigators. He told Cullison that images could potentially be found on the device but maintained that he had not taken them himself. The affidavit indicates the phone was to be processed by a specialist; it does not provide results of that examination.

Later in the interview, Barnard made additional statements regarding physical contact with the girl while continuing to characterize her as initiating the contact, according to the affidavit. He told investigators that this allegedly began when she was around 14.

Barnard was arrested Sept. 22 and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was held without bond.
